SunSmart Swimming Information

Swimming Information

  • When we are swimming outdoors we are swimming in UV.

  • Swimmers are a subject to the UV both reflected off the water and above.

  • Why is swimming important – swimming is important in case you find yourself in a dangerous situation, like if you’re drowning or your relative/friend is drowning.

  • Even if you know how to swim, don’t go jumping in the lake to save your friend. Instead, look  to see if you can find anything that would help your friend float in the water. Look around and call for help.

  • Swimming is a great way to exercise and help maintain healthy lungs, weight, heart and overall body maintenance.

  • Apply sunscreen at least 20 minutes before diving into the water.

  • If you’re planning to swim outdoors make sure to check the weather.

  • Know what you can and can’t do in the water.

  • Always wear life jackets while on boat rides, kayaking and when you know the pool is too deep for you.

Inside the Library

Inside the Library

“In the afternoon we will be going to the Library,” said the teacher. Just look for a book that you would like to read, then you will stand up in front of the class and tell us what the book was about and the name of the book. “But what if you don’t want to stand up in front of the class and tell you what it’s about?” said Emily “Then you can just share it with a little group of friends” replied the teacher.

“Okay” Emily said feeling relieved.

‘Okay guys it’s now time to go to the library, please line up outside the library and wait for me there” said the teacher, “Okay”, said the students. “Shh, guys miss is coming” Emily said to the other students. “Yes guys I’m coming and I can hear you talk so loud, that’s not good guys because the other classes are working” said the teacher.

“Now you can go and find a book you would like to read, then you will have to read it silently for 15 minutes, after that you will write what the story is about and share it with the class,” said the teacher.

“Yes, miss,” the students replied.

The time had come for them to share their stories to the class, with their books one by one they came to the front to share their stories and were really happy about themselves because none of them had to stay in.

“YAY!” The students shouted as the bell rang.
